Deviant Hysteria

There are times where words betray us.  Or expose us.  Times where they can express the inner being without our even realizing it.

Had the original comment been “She was foaming at the mouth, wherever…” that would have been clearly taken to be a reference to rabies, and by usage to being out-of-control in hatred or attitude. The discussion would have then focused on whether she had been out of control in her questions and demeanor.  It could have focused on whether the questions were fair, unfair, or unfairly targeting.

Instead, the reference was to blood.  No, it doesn’t take a deviant (a callous misdirect of its own) to make the link to menstrual cycle.  Where do you think the term hysteria comes from?  It originates in disturbances of the uterus, the menstrual cycle.  People have fire in their eyes, or blood-shot eyes, but they don’t have blood coming out their eyes….or wherever.  Hysteria, being out of control due to hormonal imbalances, is what he was trying (and succeeding ) to covey.

His innate chauvinism, his misogynist attitudes, come through in the choice of language.

And it served him well.  It served the rest of us very poorly, but it served him well.  The original question went unanswered with the diatribe against her. There was a demeaning, petty attempt at minimizing the issue, then a total avoidance.  He never DID directly answer the question posed:

“You once told a contestant on Celebrity Apprentice it would be a pretty picture to see her on her knees. Does that sound to you like the temperament of a man we should elect as president,…?”

The answer to the question….because of what was said to that contestant and what that implied, because of his failure to see the real issue, because of his demeaning attack on a trained lawyer asking a tough question of each of the challengers….the answer is no.
